The objective of the event is the state policy of human rights and gender equality, institutional mechanisms, the promotion of the implementation of normative legal acts and advocating for the increased participation of women in standardization endeavors.
The event on “Gender Equality in Standardization” was organized by the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND) which operates under the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Supervision under the Ministry of Economy. Members of both the public and private sectors, including representatives from various business organizations and other stakeholders, actively participated in the event.
During the event, Mr. Ilham Bayramov, the General Director of AZSTAND, delivered a speech emphasizing the critical significance of gender equality in standardization. He also highlighted AZSTAND's dedicated efforts in promoting gender equality and shared insights on collaborations with international companies in this regard.
In her speech, Sadagat Gahramanova, Deputy Chairwoman of the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children's Affairs, addressed the imperative of women's rights and the enhancement of women's roles within society and public administration.
Throughout the event, presentations were delivered on various pertinent topics, including the advancement of female entrepreneurship, gender equality in education, prospects for women's development in the field of information technology, standards for gender equality, and other related subjects. The discussions encompassed the government's obligation to safeguard women's rights and promote gender equality through the formulation and execution of relevant programs.
It was emphasized that the divergent physiological characteristics between women and men must be given equal consideration when formulating standards for gender equality.
In addition, reference was made to the adoption of international agreements, such as the "Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women" for the promotion of human rights and freedoms of the Republic of Azerbaijan was mentioned.
