Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC)

The purpose of Standards and Metrology Institute of Islamic Countries (SMIIC), which is the main body of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the field of standardization and metrology, is to improve the welfare of OIC member states through the development of high quality standards, to implement the activities of harmonization of standards in member countries, to eliminate technical barriers in trade, supporting the development of trade between member countries, preventing products and services that can harm people's lives, health and property, as well as the environment with the development of standardization, certification and metrology. The Institute also envisages the creation of conformity assessment schemes for mutual recognition of certificates in order to accelerate the exchange of materials and industrial goods between member states.
The Law No. 601-VIQ dated October 11, 2022 of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the approval of the Regulations of the Standards and Metrology Institute of Islamic Countries (SMIIC)" was adopted. On November 22, 2022, the membership of the Republic of Azerbaijan was approved at the General Assembly of SMIIC.
