European Committee for Standardization (CEN)

The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) is one of the 3 main standardization organizations officially recognized by the European Union (the others are the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)).

The main function of CEN is to develop consensus-based, voluntary and progressive European standards, taking into account the position of all interested parties: business-industry circles, service sphere, public sector, scientific-research centers and consumer interests. CEN has 34 full members, 6 observers and 14 Associate Standardization Bodies. At the same time, 386 Technical Committees operate under CEN.

Azerbaijan Standardization Institute has been represented in CEN as a Companion Standardization Body (CSB) since April 2018. This representation provides an opportunity to have unhindered access to European standards, to harmonize national standards with European standards, as well as to allow local experts to participate in the work of any technical committee of the organization in the status of observers.
