International Electrotechnical Commission (İEC)

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a quasi-governmental non-profit organization established in 1906. The main function of IEC is to develop consensus-based international standards for electrical and electrotechnical products. IEC, together with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which implements the preparation of international standards in the world, and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the author of international standards in the field of telecommunications, organizes the World Standards Cooperation - WSC (World Standards Cooperation).
Up to 20,000 experts from various companies, industrial enterprises, scientific-research institutes and government organizations of the world are represented in IEC. The organization has 174 Technical Committees and more than 1000 Working Groups. The activities of the experts consist of the safe use and operation of products, systems and facilities, the provision of economy in electricity consumption, the protection of the environment and the minimization of harm to human life and health, and the provision of development in the field of electrical engineering through the application of the most modern technical innovations and solutions.
Countries are represented in the organization through National Electrotechnical Committees.
Since July 2017, the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute has been a member of the "Correspondent Countries Program" of the IEC, which was established in 2001 at the initiative of the WTO for developing countries and aims to involve all countries of the world in international standardization activities without any financial obligations. Affiliate Country Program) is a participant. The main goal of the program is to:
• Promote greater awareness and use of IEC International Standards in developing countries;
• To help these countries to better understand the activities of IEC and to participate closely in this activity;
• To facilitate acceptance of IEC International Standards as national standards.
