A Technical Committee on "Consumer Policy" Standardization has been established.

    The work of the Technical Committee will help consumers make better choices, encourage active participation from all interested parties in the development of standards in this field, and raise awareness of safety issues.

At the initiative of the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND), which operates under this authority, has established a new Technical Committee for the standardization of "Consumer Policy" (AZSTAND/TC 53).

The main goal in establishing the Technical Committee is to create favorable conditions for consumers when choosing products and services, ensure active participation of all relevant parties in the development of national standards, and provide accurate information regarding the quality and safety of products and services.

The Technical Committee is represented by 8 government agencies directly involved in the protection of consumer rights, as well as 5 public organizations aiming to ensure public participation

At the first meeting of the Committee, along with the Agency, representatives from the following organizations participated: the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND), the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transportation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan, the "Free Consumers" Public Union, the "Trade Network Development" Public Union, the Azerbaijan Quality Association, the Azerbaijan Retail Clothing Importers Association, and the Azerbaijan Construction Materials Manufacturers Association.

The head of the Consumer Market Supervision Department of the Agency, Yusif Tapdıqlı, who chairs the Technical Committee, discussed the content of the draft standards developed in accordance with the Technical Committee's 2025 action plan at the meeting. These standards include AZS ISO/IEC GUIDE 14:2025 — "Products and related services — Information for consumers," AZS ISO/IEC GUIDE 76:2025 — "Development of service standards — Recommendations for addressing consumer issues," and AZS ISO/IEC GUIDE 41:2025 — "Packaging — Recommendations for considering consumer needs." He highlighted that the implementation of these standards at the national level would contribute to providing consumers with accurate information, improving service quality, enhancing safety in product packaging, and overall, advancing the protection of consumer rights in the country in line with international requirements.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the draft standards outlined in the Technical Committee's action plan, focusing on the development of advanced national standards based on existing international standards in this field.

At the end of the meeting, the proposals of the Technical Committee members regarding the projects were heard. Based on the feedback on the three draft standards presented for discussion, it was decided to improve them and submit them for approval.
