Representative of AZSTAND Participated in the Plenary Meeting of ISO/TC 136 "Furniture"

     A representative of the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND), operating under the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participated in the plenary meeting and working group sessions of the ISO Technical Committee ISO/TC 136 "Furniture", held in the Republic of Italy.

Within the framework of the event, meetings of several working groups were conducted, including ISO/TC 136/WG 1 Chairs – Methods of Test, ISO/TC 136/WG 4 Beds – Methods of Test, ISO/TC 136/WG 6 Children's and Nursery Furniture, and ISO/TC 136/WG 8 Furniture Surfaces – Methods of Test.

The discussions focused on testing methods for furniture products, safety requirements, performance criteria, and the revision and development of relevant International Standards. Participants exchanged technical expertise and reviewed ongoing standardization activities aimed at enhancing the quality, safety, and performance of furniture products.

As part of the programme, a practical seminar organized by ISO/TC 136/WG 1 demonstrated furniture testing procedures through live testing activities. Participants observed the operation of specialized testing equipment used to assess the durability, strength, and performance of furniture under various loading and service conditions. They also visited accredited laboratories to gain insight into contemporary furniture testing methodologies and laboratory practices.

During the plenary meeting of ISO/TC 136, reports from the committee's working groups were presented, draft International Standards under development were reviewed, and priorities for the committee's future work programme were identified.

Note: ISO/TC 136 “Furniture” is the International Organization for Standardization's Technical Committee responsible for the development of International Standards relating to furniture. Its scope of work includes terminology, performance and safety requirements, dimensional specifications, requirements for specific furniture components, and standardized test methods applicable to furniture products.
