The implementation of these standards represents a significant step towards ensuring product quality and compliance in the national jewellery industry, while also promoting international harmonization in the field.
The Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND), operating under the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has officially adopted new national standards in the field of jewellery and precious metals. These standards include:
AZS 979:2025 (GOST R 71116-2023) — Gems: Terms and Definitions and AZS ISO 15096:2025 — Jewellery and Precious Metals: Determination of High Purity Silver — Difference Method Using ICP-OES
The adoption of these standards aims to align Azerbaijan’s regulatory framework with international requirements, improve quality control, and enhance the accuracy of testing and analysis within the jewellery and precious metals sector.
The standard AZS 979:2025 “Gems. Terms and definitions” provides a unified set of terms and definitions for gems, facilitating consistent scientific, technical, and commercial communication. Its objective is to establish a standardized conceptual base to simplify and clarify professional dialogue in the sector.
The standart AZS ISO 15096:2025 “Jewellery and Precious Metals: Determination of High Purity Silver — Difference Method Using” specifies a reliable and precise difference method using Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) for determining the composition of high-purity silver. This method supports accurate analysis and ensures the credibility of test results for silver content.
These national standards were developed and approved in accordance with current legislation by the Technical Committee on Standardization for "Precious Metals and Gemstones" (AZSTAND/TC 36). Following their adoption, the standards were approved by AZSTAND and officially included in the State Fund of Normative Documents on Standardization.
