Participants were informed about the role of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in the international standardization system, widely implemented IEC standards, and the IEC membership mechanism.
An educational seminar on the activities of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was held for representatives of relevant public and private sector organizations at the initiative of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and with the organizational support of the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND) under the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The seminar was conducted by Ian Gardner, Director of Capacity Building at the IEC Academy.
The event brought together approximately 150 representatives of government institutions and the private sector. The seminar aimed to raise awareness of the IEC's activities and role in the international standardization system, standardization processes and relevant procedures, as well as current trends and developments in the fields of electrical engineering, energy and information and communication technologies (ICT).
During the seminar, presentations were delivered on the IEC's role in the international standardization system, the activities of the Standardization Management Bureau (SMB), conformity assessment systems, the work of technical committees, and the development and preparation of international standards.
Participants were also informed about widely implemented IEC standards and their areas of application across various sectors, as well as the practical opportunities for their implementation.
Particular attention was given to the IEC membership mechanism, opportunities for participation in international standardization activities, representation in technical committees, and the role and responsibilities of national experts in the standardization process.
The seminar also provided an opportunity for participants to raise questions and exchange views on a range of issues related to standardization. Discussions covered the industrial sector, electric power and energy, renewable energy, information and communication technologies, and the application of international standards in other strategic areas.
It should be noted that Azerbaijan has been an Associate Member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) since 1 January 2026. The country is represented in the IEC by the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND) under the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
