Establishment of the National Electrotechnical Committee (NEC) in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND), operating under the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control of the Republic of Azerbaijan, announces the establishment of the National Electrotechnical Committee (NEC).
The primary purpose of creating the NEC is to fulfill the requirements necessary for AZSTAND to obtain associate membership in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
The NEC brings together representatives from a wide range of government bodies, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders. In addition to AZSTAND and the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control, the NEC includes representatives from, The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, “Azerbaijan Transport and Communication Holding (AZCON)”, State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency under the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Institute of Metrology, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), “Azerbaijan Information and Communication Technologies Industry Association” Public Union and “STP Global Cable” LLC.
The NEC aims to accelerate Azerbaijan’s alignment with international standards in the field of electrical and electronic technologies. Membership in the IEC will facilitate the adoption of international electrotechnical standards, encourage the participation of all relevant stakeholders in the decision-making process, and enhance Azerbaijan's role in global standardization efforts.
At the NEC’s inaugural meeting, a Chairperson and Secretary were elected through a voting process. Additionally, AZSTAND resolved to submit an official application to the IEC to obtain associate membership status.
Note: The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the leading global organization that prepares and publishes international standards and manages conformity assessment systems for electrical and electronic technologies, including systems and services in the field of electrotechnology.
